Once upon a time, Ronnie Coleman was a heartthrob and one of the most popular names in the world of bodybuilding. In the late ’90s and early 2000s, he was an inspiration for everyone. It didn’t matter if people wanted to do bodybuilding or just be fit; they followed Ronnie Coleman’s fitness regime.
The Record Breaker Ronnie Coleman
Ronnie Coleman has shocked the world with his strength and broken the world record in lifts with his many popular ones, like his famous 800-pound squat. He did not stop there, but he won the Mr. Olympia title eight times, which earned him the nickname “The King.”
However, even after having such a great and successful career, we couldn’t see Coleman anymore. Fans have been constantly looking for Coleman and wanted to know what happened to him.
What happened to Ronnie Coleman?
Ronnie Coleman had many surgeries over the years and has stepped back from his bodybuilding career.
He used to do extensive exercise for that huge and bulky body, which led to many health complications and back injuries but did he take action before it was too late?
Well, not really; he kept going through pain and delayed the spinal surgery suggested by doctors, which resulted in multiple severe surgeries in later years.
Coleman’s Surgeries Over the Years
He went through his first surgery in 2007, which led to a series of complications and he has been through 13 surgeries that include:
- 9 back surgeries
- 2 hip replacements
- 2 neck surgeries
It did not stop here, as he also went through full spinal fusion, except for one herniated disc and countless screws, rods, and cages implanted in his spine and of course, all of it wasn’t painless.
The pain was unbearable by 2015 and now he has ended up walking with crutches. He went through several more surgeries and sadly went into the hands of an unprofessional doctor who was a bad surgeon and made his condition worse.
Staying Positive and Having Faith
Now that Coleman is in his 50s, he needs crutches to walk even for the short ones because of nerve damage. All these surgeries and pain couldn’t stop Coleman from hitting the gym but now he uses lighter weights.
He has never stopped inspiring his fans and many younger people and now he also owns a successful supplement company. He is a living example of optimism and faith, as even with so much pain, he still finds positivity in life.
He has been hopeful for a better life so he also tried stem cell treatments and hyperbaric therapy for improving his mobility.
Coleman once told Joe Rogan, “As long as I can do what I love, I’m happy.
