We all know Ty Pennington as the host of various home improvement shows such as Trading Spaces and Extreme Makeover Home Edition. The latter, airing on ABC Network, has won Ty two primetime Emmy awards. He has worked on food shows as well, such as On the Menu on TNT and American Dinner Revival on Food Network. And of course, he has been somewhat of a fixture on HGTV’s home renovation shows over several years, where he was known as the ‘most eligible bachelor’.
It’s surprising for many that the reality show star had stayed unmarried for so long. That is before he met his now-wife, Kellee Merrell, who is a social media manager. According to the star, he met Kellee in 2010 through friends and knew her for a long time. The duo fell in love before the pandemic started, and moved in together during quarantine. They finally got married on November 27, 2021. The couple share a 23-year age gap, with Ty being 59 and Kellee 36. He was 56 at the time of the wedding that took place in Savannah, Georgia.
Although he is an intensely private person and doesn’t indulge in much PDA, he wishes his wife on social media on all major occasions, such as birthdays and anniversaries. He adores his wife, having publicly called her his ‘best friend’ and has also remarked that ‘I’m glad our paths crossed at the right time.’.
He also acknowledges the huge gap in a cheeky manner in an Instagram post. The post, which has over 8k likes, reads, “Listen, I know I’m no Brad Pitt. My skin might be hanging on by a thread and my hairline is receding faster than I’m mentally prepared for but you know what??! I feel pretty damn GOOD!” he captioned an Instagram photo showing him shirtless in a pool. “So cheers to getting older but definitely not wiser.”
The two look intensely in love and are settled in their home with their dogs. They also travel a lot together, going by their social media posts. Well, all we can say is that ‘age is just a number’. And this couple proves once again that you should not rush into marriage, but take your own time and take the plunge only when you find the right person.
