Malia and Sasha Obama, the daughters of former US President Barack Obama, certainly had a lot of unusual and luxurious experiences when their dad was president. They got to ride on Air Force One, stay at exotic locations all over the world, and sample some of the finest things that the world has to offer. One of these premier experiences will certainly be receiving special treatment by none other than the late Queen of England, Elizabeth II.

According to Hello magazine, former first lady Michelle Obama said at a MUSE event in 2018 that when the Obamas were on a state visit to England in 2016, the Queen gave them a tour of the ‘gold room’—a room where all of the Gold is kept. “It was Sasha’s birthday and the Queen opened the house and she let us see that room,” said the former first lady.

What’s more, the surprises for the girls did not stop there. The Queen again reached out to them six years later, when they were visiting London with their maternal grandmother Marian Robinson. Barack Obama told inc.com, “The girls and my mother-in-law came through London. And there was no expectation that they’re going to be seeing her. Actually, Buckingham Palace reached out and she decided to invite them over for tea.”

And what was the hospitality that she accorded them? She gave them a tour of the palace grounds, in her golden carriage, the one that is used on special occasions, only a few times a year.

The Queen’s love for the Obamas is well-known. Tom Quinn wrote in his book ‘Kensington Palace: An Intimate Memoir from Queen Mary to Meghan Markle, “After meeting Barack Obama who she completely fell in love with – she has frequently asked her courtiers if they could arrange for him to come to Britain now he is no longer president.”

The former first couple visited Buckingham Palace three times during the duration of his presidency. This started when Obama gifted her a rather unconventional item: an iPod during his first state visit in 2009.

Two years later, in 2011,Michelle Obama presented her with a vintage brooch from the 1950s, during a state visit. In a significant twist, the Queen wore the same brooch when Obama’s successor, Donald Trump, visited the UK in 2019. Wow, that’s quite a sneaky move on her part, right? Gotta love it!

Well, amidst all the ongoing political toxicity, this was something fun and refreshing to hear!
