Julie Macklowe Blasted The Met Gala As A “Total Mess,” Saying It Was Full Of “Half-Naked” People

Macklowe believes the event has become dominated by influencers.

Socialite Julie Macklowe has been in the news headline for her controversial statement mentioning that the Met Gala is a crap show. She is being spotted breaking the number one rule of the Met Gala: you don’t diss Anna Wintour’s grand event. As per the sources during the upcoming episode of Joe Pardavila’s “good listen” podcast, Macklowe will slam the annual event, known as the “Oscars of Fashion,” saying it’s “generally a giant shitshow that’s short on star power.

She will be shown giving her view on it saying that 10 years ago it used more socialites as more business people used to participate in it but now it has reduced its limitations up to so-called influencers. According to Julie, half of the people who came to the event are unknown, and she has never interacted with them in person, which seems pointless to her.

Julie says that people just come there to show off their naked bodies as much as possible in the name shake of today’s Gen Z trend. Here she seems to be making a contradictory statement, as she appeared naked in Vogue in May 2014 in an ad for her skincare line, vbeauté.

Is the Met Gala losing its luster?

The Met Gala event has seen every celeb passing through its door, from A-list celebrities like Taylor Swift and Rihanna to a normal influencer making till there. It is also attended by socialites like Elyse Newhouse and Gillian and Sylvester Miniter. Influencers like Addison Rae, Dixie D’Amelio, Emma Chamberlain, and Madison Beer have also attended.

Meanwhile, Macklowe is married to wealthy developer Billy Macklowe, whose parents are billionaire real estate legend Harry Macklowe and Linda Macklowe. Although she hasn’t attended the Met Gala since 2019, the socialite claims to have had a memorable encounter with a wealthy and intoxicated individual at that year’s “Camp” themed event. She hasn’t spotted attending the Met Gala since 2019, but she claims to have had a memorable encounter with a wealthy and intoxicated individual at that year’s “Camp” themed event. She owns an eponymous single-malt whiskey brand.

Macklowe is aware of the consequence of the contradictory statement made for speaking badly of Wintour’s baby but she isn’t afraid and says that she is even less interested in attending such events anymore. On the other hand, many people die to buy a single ticket for the event, which not only requires $30,000 to $50,000 to buy a single ticket but also requires an invite and approval from Wintour herself.
