What did OnlyJayus do? OnlyJayus Controversy Explained

The influencer empire crumbled as OnlyJayus' dark past came to light, leaving millions wondering—can she ever recover?

OnlyJayus, the ‘psychology facts girl’ of TikTok, used to command a lot of respect and influence at one point in time. Makes sense, since she was an ‘influencer’. She used to have 9.9 million people, especially millennials and Gen X, follow her.

But then something big happened, which set off her downward spiral, from which she never could quite recover.

Well, it was a sort of leak scandal that brought about her downfall. Back in 2021, some of her private chats were leaked into the public domain, which saw the influencer go on a diatribe against the LGBT community and people of color.

This took place in February that year, where in the texts, Jayus, whose real name is Isabella Avila, was seen using racial and homophobic slurs such as the ‘n-word’, ‘f-word’, and ‘c-word’.

Although the texts were actually from way back in 2016, it did not stop people from being infuriated at her. She was also seen telling the other person, ‘I hope you get cancer’ and ‘I hope everyone close to you dies’.

OnlyJayus Real Name and Sexuality

Ironically, Isabella herself is a lesbian, and there was a lot of drama surrounding her ex-girlfriend, Brittany Lee. The fallout of the exes reached such heights that Brittany even sought to get a restraining order against Isabella. But that’s a story for another time.

Back in 2021, OnlyJayus stayed silent for a while and then issued a public apology to her fans saying, “In my past, I said disgusting things to people, and I am so ashamed of myself for using racist rhetoric and derogatory language to hurt others because I knew what that word meant and I understood the power behind it but I said it anyway because it was the meanest thing that I could think of and I’m so sorry to everyone, but especially to those in the Black community because only you guys can forgive me for this. You guys deserve better.”  She also said that she would share her platform with Black content creators.

Aftermath Of the situation

That did little to calm down the followers, as some of them even started a campaign on change.com to get her account banned on TikTok.

Angry followers also allege that Jayus has done little to follow up on her promise of sharing her platform with Black creators. The petition against her has reached 4,00,000 signatures.

As for us, we can only wait and watch where this goes. Interesting how the past catches up with us, isn’t it?
